Researchers’ Night event coming soon to ELI ALPS

Every scientific discovery begins with questions: What happened and why? How can we explain this phenomenon? What if we tried something new? What would be the consequences? This thirst for knowledge drives us forward and serves as a foundation for the Researchers’ Night event series, which our institute is joining again this year.

Researchers’ Night event coming soon to ELI ALPS

ELI ALPS Laser Research Institute is not only a prestigious research centre, but also a place where physics becomes an experience. The aim of our event is to bring science closer to all audiences – our programmes cater to anyone.

During the evening, visitors will be able to gain insight into the magical world of physics while participating in playful, spectacular, and thought-provoking activities. We will demonstrate the operation of our high-intensity lasers, talk about vacuum technologies and the spectra of light sources. We will also give our guests the opportunity to take our special components in their hands, participate in interference experiments etc. Our guests will be given the chance to move around in a virtual laboratory wearing VR goggles, admire unique objects produced in our optical workshop, and learn about our exposure to radiation. We will also conduct chilling experiments using liquid nitrogen. Those who wish can play laser chess, visit a quantum casino, or solve a crossword puzzle with the help of fitness balls. (Those who succeed to solve the puzzle will also be given the chance to take a tour inside our facilities.) As 2025 is the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, we will be highlighting discoveries that this special field of science has enriched our lives with. In addition to opening the doors of Focus, our interactive visitor space, we will also organize tours to provide a glimpse into our experimental halls.

Talks:

-         ELI ALPS, lasers, attosecond pulses and light-related Nobel prizes (Katalin Varjú)

-         Lightmatter interactions at nanoscale (Zsuzsanna Márton)

Join the event, ask questions, and experience the joy of scientific discovery!

The upcoming Researchers’ Night event will be the fourth one in a row when we announce our Art in Science competition. The aim of the contest is to encourage the production of artworks using images capturing the research results achieved at our institute. Last year, we received as many as 72 entries.

Admission is free, but registration is required to attend. You can register in advance by 25 September 2025 here: https://indico.eli-laser.eu/event/222/

Registration will also be possible on site on 26 September, but for faster admittance, we kindly ask our visitors to register in advance if possible.
