User Call

The primary mission of the ELI-ALPS Research Facility is to make accessible a wide range of the world's leading ultrashort light source pulses to user groups of the international scientific community. In order to serve the scientific needs of extreme light researches our institute is installing and developing such lasers, secondary sources, equipment and tools which can provide the possibility to gain unique results.
At the current phase of the project ELI-ALPS welcomes the submission of proposals for scientific experiments that will support the commissioning of the broad selection of resources available. (Please find the roll down list in the Users menu or scroll down here.)

 

The research technology equipment offered in the User Call 2021 are listed below. We are inviting users to exploit and discover the unique opportunities at our institute.
In order to support young researchers to join our mission we announce a Travel Grant for commissioning users to cover accommodation costs during their experimental work at ELI-ALPS.


Aim

The main purpose of the User Call is to engage the scientific community in proposing research topics and in the “ramping up” of ELI ALPS laser systems and instruments through research. Furthermore, the aim of the facility is to improve and validate the procedures set up for user facility operation.
ELI-ALPS provides beamtime as well as technical and scientific support for the experiments. Parties shall bare their own costs arising in connection with the fulfilment of experiments. All proposals will be evaluated through a peer review procedure, access is granted based on scientific excellence.

Submission and review

Proposals should be submitted online.

The proposal submission is continuous. After submission the proposal will be evaluated and, if approved, access time is expected to be allocated between 3 and 8 months after the submission.

We encourage all applicants to discuss the proposed experiments with the User Office including the beamline staff prior to the submission of the proposal.

If the result of the technical feasibility and safety assessment by ELI-ALPS allows, the proposals will be reviewed by an international scientific expert panel. In this phase, a main review criterion will be how the experiment will explore the advanced technical opportunities offered by the research technology equipment.

The decision of the reviewers and the outcome of the feasibility assessment will be communicated to the proposers by the User Office.

 

Limitations

As the experiments will be performed during the “ramp-up” period of the facility and also serve the optimization of beyond the state of the art research technology equipment, please note that ELI-ALPS cannot guarantee either the full functionality or the maximum stability of the systems. All efforts will be made to ensure successful experiments and prevent any inconvenience, but ELI-ALPS reserves the right to reschedule or cancel an experiment on short notice.
